Dr Shivananda Prabhu is a professor of surgery at the Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Mangaluru, India. He received his master’s degree in Surgery while working at King Edward Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. Being trained under experts such as Dr Ravindra Bapat and Dr Sadananda Shetty, he has spent the last two decades pursuing the art of surgery, and his whole life observing and learning from his surroundings. Dr Prabhu believes that the current medical curriculum does not stress enough on the human aspect of healthcare. Hence, he has been striving to inculcate that spirit among the fresh young medical graduates through his uncanny ability to draw the readers’ attention to the interesting parts of the mundane. Dr Prabhu has authored two books titled Pocket Manual on the Art of History Taking and Clinical Signs and Syndromes in Surgery and numerous papers in medical journals. His articles on healthcare in the daily leading Kannada newspaper Udayavani and segments on local television channels have made him a well-known name in Karnataka.
