Decolonial Existence and Urban Sensibility: A Study on Mahesh Elkunchwar
The book Decolonial Existence and Urban Sensibility: A Study on Mahesh Elkunchwar meticulously reflects upon some of the selected translated plays of Marathi playwright Mahesh Elkunchwar. It revolves around the themes of decolonial existence and urban sensibility in contemporary India as portrayed in his plays with respect to post-independent urban existence, socio-cultural existence and gender. The book also looks forward to establish a counterargument against the idealized and totalitarian definitions of West-centric existentialist philosophy, and establish indigenous dimensions of decolonial existence within specific contexts. It dismantles the colonially structured existing binaries of urban/rural, ethical/unethical and high culture/low culture through the diverse portrayal of human relationships in contemporary India and broadly addresses two inter-mingled perspectives. Firstly, it outlines the thematic and dramatic perspectives of the selected plays of Mahesh Elkunchwar and secondly, it explores the multi-dimensional philosophical perspectives that encapsulate the theoretical latitude of decoloniality and urban sensibility

Performing Self/Performing Gender: Reading the lives of Women Performers in Colonial India
This book explores the shifting identity of the female performer in India, starting from the late 19th century to the early years of independence, through the study of autobiographies and memoirs. It attempts to make visible the actress figure by entering the history of performance, guided by the voice of the female performer. The discussion on performing woman in this book spans across the performing traditions of the tawaif, actresses in public theatre, early Indian film actresses, and actresses in the Indian People?s Theatre and the Prithvi Theatre. Sheetala Bhat is an actress and a writer from Sirsi, a small town in the Western Ghats of Karnataka. She holds an MA in English Literature from Manipal Centre for Philosophy and Humanities, Manipal University, Manipal. She worked with Chintana repertory, exploring the possibilities of theatre in education in government schools in Karnataka. She writes short stories and poetry in Kannada. Being a reclusive reader and an enthusiastic actress, she often finds herself rummaging and weaving in between the fields of theatre and Indian literature, with an emphasis on the gender concerns in these areas. Performing Self, Performing Gender: Reading the Lives of Women Performers in Colonial India is her first book.

Saamaajika Neeti Kaavya Guchchhah
The book Samajika Niti-Kavya Gucchah contains five satakams (sets of hundred verses) on social ethics, inspired by the ancient Sanskrit poet, Bhartrhar’s Niti-satakam. They are on environmental ethics, Gandhi’s ethical philosophy, Hinduism from the ethical perspective of Gandhi, humanitarianism, and ethical philosophy of democracy including human rights. There are also two dasakams (sets of ten verses), being prayers to goddess Sharada and goddess Mahalakshmi, one at the beginning and the other at the end of the satakams, respectively; seeking wisdom and end to poverty and inequality in the world. Though the original compositions are in Sanskrit, the book provides their lucid translation into English with word-to-word meaning and annotation.
The book is a short but comprehensive introduction to social, political, economic, and environmental ethics, and can be an aid in learning Sanskrit through modern problems showing the language as relevant for contemporary concerns as well.

Tapaalu Mani

Dhvani and Epiphany: Essays in Criticism (12 Essays)
Dhvani and Epiphany examines the work of major Indian poets like Nissim Ezekiel and Arun Kolatkar; the struggle of young poets to find an audience; and the art of fiction. But its main focus is on the nature of creativity. How does an artist communicate his meaning? What makes a work genuinely creative? Through a sensitive exploration of poetry ? ranging from the simple poems of a child, Poorna Prajna, to the complex ?Byzantium Poems? of Yeats ? the first seven essays try to show how a poem comes to life when it speaks to us and we listen to its dhvani and respond. Even in fiction, it is not all realism. There is irony in exploring the paradoxical nature of reality; events taking on symbolic overtones; and epiphany, moments of illumination and insights ? when surprising correspondences are seen. Writers cannot surprise and delight their audience if they themselves are not surprised and delighted by such insights.
