This handbook is a guide to health insurance schemes across various states in India. It consists of various central and state government health insurance schemes available in the following states and union territories: Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, and Puducherry.

A health insurance policy covers the medical expenses incurred owing to accidents, illnesses, or injuries. Several public-funded health insurance schemes have proven to reduce out-of-pocket expenditure and support unforeseen financial needs. An individual can avail such a policy for monthly or annual premium payments for a specified tenure.

These insurance schemes work to benefit the economically weaker sections of society. Hence, this handbook is devised using simple language for the general reader’s convenience.
