Healthy Heart There is an increase in the number of patients undergoing coronary interventions in India. This is easily attributable to the increased prevalence of metabolic syndrome, diabetes and provides a brief overview to the community about common symptoms of heart disease. Details of coronary interventions are performed, their relative indications and complications associated with the same are explained in simple terms. Healthy Heart briefly explains about how open heart surgery and bypass are performed. Importantly, it describes how patients are supposed to live a healthy active life to prevent heart diseases. About the Author: Ranjan Shetty, Krishnananda Nayak Dr Ranjan Shetty is an Associate Professor and an interventional cardiologist at KMC, Manipal. He obtained his MBBS degree from KMC, Mangalore and MD in Internal Medicine from All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He is specialized in cardiology, acquiring the Doctorate degree from Postgraduate institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. His interest lies in teaching, from undergraduates to super specialty students. With a zeal for all branches in interventional cardiology, he also believes in preventive cardiology. He has conducted conferences highlighting preventive aspect of cardiology. Mr Krishnananda Nayak is presently working in MCOAHS, Manipal as an Assistant Professor in Cardiovascular Technology. He has acquired his MSc in cardiovascular technology from MCOAHS and has additional MSc in Physics and MPhil to his credentials. Ever enthusiastic about teaching, he always teaches cardiology residents about various aspects of echocardiography and interventions. With a special interest in paediatric heart disease, he is currently pursuing his PhD in utility of foetal echocardiography in intra-uterine growth retardation.
