V N Deshpande
Dr Vasudev Narayanarao Deshpande (1939-2014) obtained his Doctorate in Education from the Karnatak University, Dharwad (Karnataka). In addition to his mastery in Indian Philosophy, he had a sound knowledge of Western philosophy as well. An acclaimed scholar all through his academic career, he secured B M Srikanthaiah Gold Medal for standing first to the Karnatak University in BA. In recognition of his scholarship in Sanskrit literature and Vedanta Philosophy, he was awarded Pandit Pandharinathacharya Galagali Gold Medal in 2012. A good orator, Dr Deshpande regularly delivered lectures on religion and philosophy on various platforms including the Theosophical Society, Dharwad. He taught English at the Bharat High School, Dharwad, where he retired as the head master. He was a visiting faculty at the BEd College run by the Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha and was associated with the academic activities of the University College of Education, Karnatak University, Dharwad. He immensely contributed towards the development of Shri Kurubagatti Maruti temple, Dharwad, by serving as the Chairman of the Temple Trust for over 20 years.
